Barclays Stage Partners Full Houses Scheme - final reports

Type Independent evaluation and research
Author Arts Marketing Warwickshire/Aspirational Arts Partnership
Date 2000
Pages 107 pages

Barclays Stage Partners was the first partnership of its type between Arts Council England and a private sector partner, touring the highest quality drama to the widest possible audience by enabling consortia of theatre companies to produce and tour nationwide. The Barclays Stage Partners Full Houses Scheme introduced a flexible addition to Barclays Stage Partners by extending receiving theatres’ education/community work and developing their relationship with touring companies and local audiences, which were identified as two specific groups:

  • Schools which for financial or logistical reasons did not attend productions
  • Groups within the community who did not currently attend performances for reasons of price, awareness, accessible information or transport. The Scheme was based around tours of 7 productions and included 26 medium and large-scale venues; it ran over a period of 20 weeks. Research was carried out at 12 of the venues using audience questionnaires. The 55-page final report provides a detailed description of each individual project together with an assessment of the outcomes. The Scheme Research Report by Arts Marketing Warwickshire contains the findings of the survey conducted at the following 12 participating venues: Wakefield Theatre Royal; Wycombe Swan; Tron Theatre, Glasgow; Nottingham Theatre Royal; Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh; Swansea Grand Theatre; Milton Keynes Theatre; Churchill Theatre, Bromley; The Hawth, Crawley; Woverhampton Grand Theatre; Norwich Theatre Royal; New Theatre, Cardiff. The 9-page Report on the Implications of the Findings by Aspirational Arts Partnership discusses the issues raised by the Scheme and makes recommendations for the future.
